Life Event Book Recommender
Our Mission
The Life Event Book Recommender is a novel categorization methodology to recommend fiction books for young adults ages 13-19 not based on what they've done in the past or what others think, but on what they are experiencing in the moment.
Our Data
Our MVP dataset is obtained from the “Best Books Ever Dataset” created as part of a different graduate program project from Goodreads data. We then cleaned, filtered, and formatted the data. We have 29,652 different books in our dataset with over 14,000 authors and a large expanse of genres.
Our MVP
Our MVP includes 8 different "Life Events": University, Relationships, Break Ups, Divorce, Weddings, Death, Family, Friends. Each life event is from our survey of users targeting different experiences they are having in their own lives. Our MVP model is a combination of a synsets and lemmas model with a fine-tuned BERT model to categorize the books. Our initial application is in Appsheet and requires a user to be granted access individually. For more information, please see our website!
