Info 213. Introduction to User Experience Design

Instructor: Stefanie Hutka

You will learn how to design technologies that work well and meet the needs of their users; how to communicate and justify your design decisions; and how human-centered design fits into the broader context of product development. You will receive an introduction to the field of human-computer interaction (HCI), and learn to apply design thinking to user experience (UX) design and evaluation. We will also cover a few special topic areas within HCI. Specific skills you will learn include: Observation, Prototyping, Testing, and Communication.

This course will explore the theory and practice of Tangible User Interfaces, a new approach to HCI which focuses on the physical interaction with computational media. The topics covered in the course include: Theoretical framework of Tangible User Interfaces, Design examples of Tangible User Interfaces, and Enabling technologies for Tangible User Interfaces.

The goal of this course is to provide students with an introduction to many different types of quantitative research methods and statistical techniques. Topics in research methods include: Primary and Secondary Data Analysis, Sampling, Survey Design, and Experimental Designs. Topics in quantitative techniques include: Descriptive and Inferential statistics, General Linear Models, and Non-Linear Models.
