Alumni Accounts

Alumni CalNet Account

Alumni are eligible to keep the same CalNet account. That account provides login access to:

  • School of Information resources, including:
    • I School Intranet
    • I School career services
  • Berkeley campus resources, including:
    • Transcripts
    • Job and internship postings
    • Berkeley Career Center alumni career services
    • Lifelong learning
    • Berkeley alumni directory through the my.berkeley.edu alumni portal

Your CalNet account will remain active after you graduate — but you must log into your CalNet account regularly in order to keep it. Alumni CalNet accounts will be deactivated after six months of inactivity (not logging in).

If you have trouble logging in to your CalNet account, you can change your passphrase at mycalnet.berkeley.edu.

If you need further assistance with your CalNet account, email calnet@berkeley.edu for assistance.

After you graduate, you will receive a series of automated emails warning you that your CalNet account will “expire” nine months after graduation. These emails are not true. Instead, your CalNet account will transition to an alumni CalNet account, with access to a different set of online resources. But as long as you authenticate via CalNet regularly (to check your email, log into the I School website, etc.), your CalNet account will not expire.

Reactivating Lapsed CalNet Accounts

If your CalNet account has been deactivated due to inactivity, you may request the campus to reactivate your account. Once reactivated, you will again be able to log in to the I School website, the My Berkeley portal, and other Berkeley alumni resources.

Request CalNet Reactivation

(CalNet accounts may be reactivated upon request, but bConnected (Google) email accounts will not be reactivated.)

Email & bConnected Account

New alumni are eligible to maintain their Berkeley email accounts. This will be the same account you used as a student, including both your @berkeley.edu and @ischool.berkeley.edu email addresses. Alumni email access is provided by Berkeley’s University Development and Alumni Relations department. In order to keep your account active, you must reduce the overall storage in your Google account below 5 GB and log into the account via a web browser at least once every six months.

5 GB Storage Quota

Alumni accounts have a 5 GB storage quota. Storage quotas count the combined storage in Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. Quick Tips For Reducing Your Berkeley Google Storage

Log In Regularly

You must log in to the account in a web browser at least once every six months. Reading email via mobile and desktop apps (e.g., Gmail App, Apple Mail, Outlook) or forwarding email without accessing the account directly in a web browser does not fulfill the login requirement.

If your bMail account lapses, it will not be reenabled.

This service is available only to alumni who currently have active bConnected accounts. If you graduated before alumni bConnected accounts were available or if you allowed your account to lapse, the campus alumni relations team will not create or recreate an account for you.

I School Intranet Access and Alumni Directory

Alumni can log into the I School Intranet using their CalNet credentials. Intranet access allows I School alumni to browse the alumni directory and update your directory profile.
