AnnaLee Saxenian Reappointed as Dean of the I School

"Anno has proven to be an effective and successful leader, and the Chancellor and I are deeply appreciative of her contributions to the School and the campus."
—George Breslauer
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost

UC Berkeley Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost George W. Breslauer announced this week that AnnaLee Saxenian has agreed to serve another term as dean of the School of Information.

AnnaLee Saxenian has served as dean of the school since February, 2004, and holds a joint appointment in the I School and the Department of City and Regional Planning. An internationally recognized expert on regional economies and the information technology sector, Saxenian has written extensively about the organization of production in technology regions like Silicon Valley.

Her most recent book, The New Argonauts: Regional Advantage in the Global Economy (Harvard University Press, 2006), explores how the "brain circulation" by immigrant engineers from Silicon Valley has transferred technology entrepreneurship to emerging regions in China, India, Taiwan, and Israel.

Saxenian holds a doctorate in political science from MIT, a master's degree in regional planning from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in economics from Williams College.
