Deportation Deliberation

The backlog of immigration court cases has exploded since late 2016 and reached over 1,000,000 cases as of early 2020. According to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, the average wait time for cases currently in the backlog is over 700 days.

JUSTITIA is an immigration case approval simulator that utilizes machine learning to predict the probability of relief being granted for immigration court cases. We aim to provide a tool for immigrants, refugees, and immigration lawyers to understand the chance of a positive case outcome and to help alleviate the uncertainty that results from the ever-increasing wait time for their cases to be heard in court. Our simulator is also translated into a Spanish version because the vast majority of immigrants is Spanish speaking. In addition, our website serves as a one-stop-shop for immigrants by providing important relevant resources including links to access their case information and to find immigration and pro bono lawyers. Immigration lawyers can use the interactive visualizations on our website for in-depth analysis of statistics and trends on immigration court cases.
