The Virtual Reference Desk

A study of the technology options available to libraries wishing to provide virtual reference services to users. Virtual reference is a synchronous online communication between a reference librarian and a library user who needs research assistance. Various options exist - most include some form of chat or instant messaging and some include the ability to "push" web pages to the user. I will present usability assessment results and discuss management and privacy issues.
