Biography

Joyce Shen is a business leader, venture capitalist, board director, educator, and inventor. She has extensive operating and business leadership experience in enterprise technology and information services, in addition to commercializing emerging technologies, and scaling innovation, transformation and growth in startups and global companies. On the investment side, Joyce has led and managed investments of all stages, from early-stage to growth equity to M&A. Throughout her career, Joyce has held global leadership and executive management roles as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Managing Director in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer, and in corporate development.

Joyce is currently the Investment and Operating Partner at stage-agnostic private investment firm Tenfore Holdings in New York City, where she is responsible for leading and managing investments in companies focused on enterprise software, big data, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. Since 2016, Joyce has been a lecturer of data science at the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley. She previously was a guest lecturer on blockchain and innovation at The University of Oxford.

Prior to joining Tenfore Holdings, Joyce served as the Global Managing Director of Emerging Technologies and Venture Investments in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer at Thomson Reuters where she built and led the organization’s Global Emerging Technology Group and the Corporate Venture Capital Fund. During her tenure, she developed and executed on new technology strategies and product innovations in Fintech, IoT, and emerging data solutions, established Thomson Reuters’ enterprise-wide blockchain program, and made strategic investments in early-stage technology companies in the AI, digital identity, blockchain, and alternative data space. Prior to Thomson Reuters, Joyce was the founding CFO of IBM Cloud and managed over $1B P&L. She also spent several years in IBM Corporate Development where she led acquisitions and divestitures.

Joyce is a published author on emerging technologies and innovation, a public speaker, and an entrepreneur. Her recent books include From Talking to Doing: A Short Guide to Corporate Innovation Success as well as The Promises and Limitations of Blockchain.

Joyce received her bachelor degrees in Statistics and Economics from The University of Chicago and holds an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
