Susan Oberlander (PhD '00) appointed New Mexico's new State Librarian

Susan Oberlander (PhD '00) has been appointed New Mexico's new State Librarian by Stuart Ashman, Secretary of the Department of Cultural Affairs. Oberlander, an experienced library professional and expert in the field of management information systems, will assume leadership of the 78 year old State Library on July 2, 2007.

"The State Library's mission — to provide leadership that empowers libraries to support the educational, economic, and health goals of their communities — is both facilitated and complicated by the digital age," said Oberlander. "I look forward to becoming the State Librarian for New Mexico in this exciting technological time."

Oberlander holds a Master of Library Science from the University of Oklahoma, as well as a doctorate from the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley.
