Sustainable Development Goals by providing accurate, timely datasets and actionable insights that can address the needs of the developing world.
Our team has pioneered ways to estimate environmental and socioeconomic indicators at fine resolution across the developing world by combining high-resolution satellite imagery with the latest advances in machine learning and AI. These techniques allow insights into on-the-ground conditions in developing countries at a small fraction of the cost of traditional survey-based methods. We’re building a platform providing insights that will revolutionize decision-making in the global development sector, empowering governments and other development stakeholders to better target and evaluate their activities and will enable private companies to unlock new products addressing the needs of the underserved.
Position Description:
This is a rare opportunity to have a significant impact on the evolution of a new startup funded by the Rockefeller Foundation in downtown Palo Alto. You will be part of a big mission and a small team contributing to global sustainable development. As the first data engineer, you will lead the development of our modern big data pipeline, handling global-scale geospatial data.
Job Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and deploy:
- scalable pipelines for migrating global-scale geospatial data from providers to cloud
- an efficient geospatial vector and raster datastore for fast data queries
- data platform APIs that support our machine learning workflows and dynamic, reactive web UIs.
- Implement internal libraries to process and analyze geospatial data at scale.
Requirements:
- Expertise in modern big data technologies, especially Spark.
- Expertise in backend, database, and API design
- Experience in Google Cloud Platform (especially Big Query)
- Experience in cloud infrastructure technologies such as Terraform and Ansible.
