Have you ever tried to use ChatGPT or Gemini to help you write a resume or cover letter, only to end up with a stiff, generic result that didn’t sound like you at all? Or worse, did it include experiences and skills you didn’t actually have?

Generative AI tools can be a tempting shortcut in the job search, but without the right approach, they can produce materials that are inaccurate, inauthentic, or even misleading, potentially landing you in trouble during an interview. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to combine best practices in writing and prompt engineering to make these tools work for you.

We’ll walk through examples of how to craft prompts that generate solid first drafts, and explore how to refine those drafts into polished, personalized materials that reflect your strengths, fit the role, and align with company culture. By the end of the session, you’ll know how to use AI tools to create job search materials that are tailored, credible, and uniquely yours — without sounding AI-generated. As a bonus, we’ll also cover how to use these tools for job and company research, interview preparation, and follow-up communication like thank-you notes and post-interview emails.
