Tech and Justice: Navigating Harms in the Digital Age

Wednesday, February 15, 2023
12:15 pm to 1:15 pm PST
Online

This virtual event will bring together formerly incarcerated students from UC Berkeley to discuss the technology-mediated harms that disproportionately affect communities impacted by the criminal legal system. Our guests, Shani Shay, Conan Minihan, and Eli Martinez, will share their personal experiences and insights on these issues. The table talk will be moderated by a host and will cover topics such as privacy and surveillance, online financial scams, and the impact of these harms on post-incarceration life. The event will also highlight potential solutions and preventative measures that can be taken to address these issues.

With the support and resources of UC Berkeley Underground Scholars and the Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity, part of the UC Berkeley School of Information, this event aims to raise awareness and empower communities affected by the criminal legal system. Join us to hear from these inspiring students — and share your own voice in this important discussion.
