School of Information Commencement 2013

The commencement ceremony honors the class of 2013 with student speakers, keynote speaker DJ Patil, and presentation of the James R. Chen Awards.

Keynote Speaker: DJ Patil

Dr. DJ Patil is currently a data scientist in residence at Greylock Partners.

Previously he was the chief product officer of Color Labs; chief scientist, chief security officer, and head of analytics at LinkedIn; and director of strategy, analytics, and product at eBay. Prior to that, his work focused on national security, counterterrorism, and bioweapons proliferation prevention. In the academic community he is best know for his work in numerical weather prediction. Patil helped coin the term “data scientist,” and ranked #2 on Forbes’ 2011 list of the world’s most powerful data scientists.
