Showcase: Information Organization Lab

Thursday, December 10, 2009
3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

This semester, groups of students produced over 30 experimental projects: Come see Vannevar Bush’s Memex implemented using Delicious, Hulu meets the Semantic Web, a prescription drug lookup interface, a Twitter recommendation engine and many more. Refreshments will be served.

Information Organization Lab is a new course taught this semester at the School of Information for students to experiment with fundamental concepts of information organization and retrieval. The projects on display were built as part of rapid two- to three-week assignments using tools like JavaScript, jQuery, Python, Google App Engine, and APIs from Delicious, Flickr, Yahoo!, and Freebase. For more information, see the course website at http://courses.ischool.berkeley.edu/i290-4/f09/
