GSI, Reader, & Tutor Positions

Spring 2021 Positions
All Spring 2021 positions have been filled.
Fall 2021 positions will be posted in early to mid-April 2021.
Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) may lead discussion or laboratory sections, hold office hours, read student papers, and more, under the active supervision of a faculty member. They may also assist with planning assignments or exams or grading. See full description
Readers typically grade student assignments, papers, and/or exams. They may also attend lectures, hold office hours, or have other duties. Readers do not teach. See full description
Tutors typically provide individual or group tutoring sessions. They may also attend lectures, hold office hours, or have other duties. Tutors do not teach. See full description

Reporting your hours:
- Readers and tutors may be paid as variable-time employees and must document the hours and minutes worked. If time sheets are not submitted, the student will not get paid. Timesheets are due and readers and tutors are paid biweekly. (Timekeeping app instructions)
- GSIs and GSRs are exempt employees and receive a fixed monthly salary based on a predetermined time percentage. Salaries are paid on the first of the month.
For students hired as GSIs:
First-time GSIs must have completed or be enrolled in a 300-level pedagogy seminar, complete an online professional standards and ethics course, and attend the 1- or 2-day teaching conference before the start of the semester. First-time GSIs who fail to pass the 300-level course must retake and pass the course before they are eligible to teach again. Requirements for first-time GSIs. More GSI policies and guidelines.
