The School of Information seeks applications for an Admissions Manager.

The School has a complex admissions and financial aid operation with four distinct graduate degree programs. Each of these programs has its own unique target audience, degree objective, and curricular requirements. Each has a unique admissions cycle and admissions review process and committee. The Ph.D. and MIMS degrees use the Graduate Division admissions collection system, Slate. The MIDS and MICS degrees are offered in collaboration with a third party vendor and utilizes their admissions system. Each degree has a unique fellowship program combining departmentally restricted funds, teaching appointments, grants, and access to federal financial aid.

This position is critical to keeping our admissions operations running smoothly – providing excellent customer service to our applicants and simultaneously meeting all internal deadlines and conforming to all relevant campus policies and guidelines. This position also coordinates and implements admissions marketing, recruitment, and yield and financial aid programs and events. In addition, this position will coordinate the I School fellowship programs for all three degree populations and liaise with the campus Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

Responsibilities

65%  Admissions:

  • Provides substantive information on admissions requirements, degree programs and curricula, financial aid, and career opportunities.

  • Responds to inquiries from prospective students regarding entrance requirements, application procedures, financial aid availability, etc. Maintains admissions websites.

  • Coordinates and performs recruitment activities, including representing the School at admissions events and other forums, online chats, and webinars. Helps to manage student admissions representatives and other volunteers in these efforts.

  • Assists with application processing for the four degree programs. Evaluates prerequisite coursework. Manages the applicant database.

  • Assists with marketing efforts, including email communications, newsletters, social media, and other initiatives.

  • Assists with Graduate Division admissions recommendation process. Working independently and with our partner vendor, ensures timely and complete receipt of newly admitted student application materials and all consecutive enrollment requirements.

  • Under guidance of admissions director, oversees admissions yield events and activities. Responsible for planning and execution of MIMS Welcome Day, Ph.D. new admit visits, new admit / student matching, yield email communication, and other yield initiatives. Reviews and updates new admit materials on the intranet.

  • Provides technical support for all admissions systems, including Slate, Salesforce, the admissions website, and other campus platforms. Works with internal, external, and campus partners on troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.

  • Supports admissions assistant in application coordination, admission decision processing, and other administrative duties, as needed.

25% Financial Aid and Fellowships:

  • Advises prospective and current students on matters related to financing their education.

  • Serves as liaison to the Graduate Division Fellowships Office and the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

  • Works with assistant director of admissions to administer PhD funding packages comprising fellowships and teaching and research appointments.

  • Works with assistant director of admissions to administer MIMS fellowships programs. Performs needs analysis and assesses eligibility.

  • Researches new scholarship opportunities and makes recommendations for new aid programs within the School.

5% Campus and External Relations:

  • Networks with centralized offices on campus in an effort to provide students with greater access to information and resources. Networks with peers on campus to learn best practices.

5% Administrative:

  • Updates and edit website content related to prospective students and financial aid.

  • Provides data for annual reports, as needed.

  • Provide back-up support to other admissions and student affairs functions, as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of UC Berkeley, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective applicants and the public.

  • Working knowledge of Berkeley academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs.

  • Minimum 2 to 5 years working in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and proficiency with applications such as CARS, DB2, TeleBears and BearFacts.

  • Proficiency with Windows applications, Adobe, bCal and Microsoft Access Excel and Word. Salesforce and/or Slate CRM experience a plus.

This is a designated position requiring fingerprinting and a background check due to the nature of the job responsibilities. The hourly salary range designated for this position is $26.34 - $31.13; starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
