The School of Information’s May 2024 Commencement presented an opportunity to honor faculty and student achievements.

Head of School Marti Hearst presented awards for outstanding capstone projects from the Master of Information Management and Systems program, the Master of Information and Data Science program, and the Master of Information and Cybersecurity program.

Students in the MIMS, MIDS, and MICS programs voted for their most outstanding instructors and gave awards to their classmates.

A group of scholars from the School of Information are tackling the issue of illegal sand mining with the help of a grant from the Mozilla Technology Foundation (MTF) and collaborators from India. Ph.D. students Suraj Nair and Ando Shah, alongside Professor Joshua Blumenstock, are spearheading the creation of Sand Mining Watch, a set of open-source tools to enable the production of high-resolution maps of sand-mining activity around the world.
