Strollo: Explore, Enjoy, Expand

The modern American lifestyle results in the average American spending 93% of their time indoors, negatively implicating both mental and physical health (La Puma, 2026). Strollo’s goal is to encourage people to partake in fulfilling, healthful adventures catered to their personal interests. Rather than typical navigation apps that restrict the user to point-A-to-point-B “railroaded” pathfinding, Strollo provides dynamic suggestions to allow for impromptu or spur-of-the-moment decisions. Strollo gives its users just the right amount of extra information to guide them to where their heart desires and follow their intuition.

What sets Strollo apart? There is a tradeoff between efficiency (e.g., Google Maps, Apple Maps) and delight. Current navigational tools often optimize for the shortest route or popularity, deprioritizing the emotional, human experiences of pathfinding such as delight, confidence, trust, and bio-psycho-social effects. Research has long established that walking is one of the most effective public health interventions available, significantly reducing risks of cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline (Lee & Buchner, 2008). However, the environment in which a walk takes place indicates the level of psychological restoration achieved.

Strollo reframes urban exploration as a tool for wellness and discovery rather than mere navigation. The project designs and validates an AI experience that supports “fun and safe” decision-making while maintaining social comfort in real-world settings.
