FinSight: Inclusive Mobile Banking for Blind and Low-Vision Users
For the estimated 12 million Americans living with visual impairments, mobile banking remains structurally inaccessible despite existing regulations, compliance audits, and industry awareness. Blind and low vision (BLV) users continue to abandon tasks, rely on sighted assistance, and route around banking apps entirely, adapting silently to systems that are largely optimized around sighted users’ workflows.
FinSight is a voice-first mobile banking prototype designed from the ground up for BLV users, grounded in original mixed-methods research with the BLV community. Findings from this project suggest that accessible banking experiences should prioritize user independence over reactive accommodation.
