Biography

Hello! I'm Charlie Beasley, a chemist at a drinking water treatment facility in Colorado. I have a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability and a minor in Mathematics. I greatly value what I learned while obtaining my undergraduate degree, however, I believe I have some room to improve when it comes to working with large amounts of data. That's where the MIDS program comes in! It is my hope to develop skills in regards to data wrangling, modeling, and ultimately, predicting events based on gathered data. In my work, raw water quality conditions are often very volatile and rapidly changing. Being able to predict fluctuations in raw water turbidity, total organic carbon, alkalinity, and ph, amongst others, has the potential to greatly enhance my facility's ability to treat the water.

Beyond that, it is a goal of mine to combine my knowledge of ecological and climate-related issues, with my newly acquired data science skills to generate sustainability analytics for companies, NGOs, or government agencies. With the vast amounts of complex data and relationships  that exist in this realm, I truly think that anything short of a Master's degree would leave me ill-equipped to tackle these problems. A sustainable future is out there for humanity and I intend to use data science to help find the way there.
