Anthropic has less than 36 hours before it barrels toward uncharted territory with the US government

Anthropic is fast-approaching uncharted waters with the US government over military use of its frontier AI model, Claude.
On Tuesday morning, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei talked with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in a meeting that a source familiar with the matter told Business Insider was friendly and respectful.
The meeting, however, ended with a warning to Anthropic: Get on board with the military or risk getting what amounts to a blacklisting by the US government.
A senior Pentagon official told Business Insider that Anthropic has until 5:01 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday to agree to the Defense Department’s terms; otherwise, it will find other levers to compel the AI startup to cooperate with the military...
