Data Science Fall 2020 Capstone Project Showcase
Capstone projects are the culmination of the MIDS students’ work in the School of Information’s Master of Information and Data Science program.
Over the course of their final semester, teams of students propose and select project ideas, conduct and communicate their work, receive and provide feedback, and deliver compelling presentations along with a web-based final deliverable.
Join us for an online presentation of these capstone projects. Each team will present for twenty minutes, including Q&A.
A panel of judges will select an outstanding project for the Hal R. Varian MIDS Capstone Award.

François Callewaert
Data Scientist
Databricks
François Callewaert received a master’s in engineering from École Polytechnique, Paris. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Northwestern University. After a three-month data science fellowship at the Data Incubator in Oakland, CA, François joined Microsoft as an applied scientist for the Office 365 customer support team, where he worked for two years on data-driven improvements of the customer support experience. He joined the data team at Databricks as a data scientist in March 2020, where he has been working on customer and product analytics.
Madison Myers (MIDS ’17)
Director of Product Management
AI Foundation
Madison Myers is the director of product management for AI Foundation. She previously led AI teams at IBM, UCSF, and Change Healthcare, with a focus on the intersection between social good and AI. After starting her career in social sciences and working in several countries, Madison became passionate about making a bigger impact on the world using AI. Madison holds an undergrad from NYU, a master’s degree from UC Berkeley and a second in international studies from Kings College London.
Christina Papadimitriou (MIDS ’19)
Machine Learning Engineer – AI Acceleration
JPMorganChase
Christina Papadimitriou is a machine learning engineer on the artificial intelligence acceleration team at JPMorgan Chase. Her team accelerates the adoption of AI into the firm’s products and services. Prior to this role, Christina was a software engineer at JPMorgan Asset Management, building systems that supported full investment management cycles from portfolio construction to portfolio execution and trading. Christina is the co-chair of PRIDE Tri-State, JPMorgan’s LGBT+ business resource group, and she serves in the NY leadership team for Out in Tech, a non-profit that unites the LGBTQ+ tech community. Christina is an alumna of the Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS) program at UC Berkeley. She was also the recipient of the Paul Fasana LGBTQ Studies Research Fellowship and the UC Berkeley School of Information commencement speaker in May 2019.Christina holds a master’s in operations research from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Engineering in chemical engineering from the University of South Carolina.
David Reiley
Adjunct Professor
UC Berkeley School of Information
David Reiley is a distinguished scientist in the advertising-science group at SiriusXM Pandora and an adjunct professor at the UC Berkeley School of Information, where he teaches a course on field experiments in the data science program. He previously spent more than seven years at Google and Yahoo! Research, primarily working on experiments to measure the effects of online advertising. He started his career as an economics professor at Vanderbilt University and at the University of Arizona.
