290. Social Enterprise using ICTs for International DevelopmentCourse Description:
This class is focused on social entrepreneurship and the creation of sustainable enterprises based on ICT innovations supporting rural development. The class takes a broad view of entrepreneurship — including starting new businesses, non-profit initiatives and/or public sector projects. Students will begin by reporting on and synthesizing their observations, experiences and field trials from summer field work. They will receive feedback from experts and entrepreneurs who have launched successful ventures or projects in the developing world, including faculty from Berkeley, successful social entrepreneurs and consultants. The final deliverable will be a business plan and/or project proposal describing a product or service with a comprehensive implementation plan, including necessary partnerships, a funding/revenue model and appropriate next steps.
