290. Video in the Workplace

Course Description

"Streaming media" has been around for about a decade, but only since the launch of video sharing sites like YouTube has video become a standard tool of communication on the internet. This course will explore how the explosion of video on the internet is changing the way companies communicate with their employees, customers, and partners. As with web conferencing services, PDA’s, and computers, breakthrough technologies are more frequently being introduced to the workplace through individual initiative rather than corporate fiat. The class will cover: Video: the most complex data type? Common use cases for video in the enterprise; Overview of video technologies in use today; The video communications workflow; Converging technologies: web conferencing, videoconferencing, streaming; What’s important to companies: security, compliance, feedback, bandwidth management; What’s next...

The course will also include a hands-on project component. Students will use tools such as video editing software to compile clips, authoring software to prepare a slide synchronized presentation, and setting up and configuring a corporate portal with appropriate categories and permissions.
