BiographyAs E-Learning Librarian and I School Library Liaison, Char works directly with faculty and students to provide individualized research support and develop the Library's IS collection. Char is available by appointment or for consultations and questions, provides course-related research instruction, and is a go-to for troubleshooting access problems with Information Studies or other Library resources. Char completed a Master's of Educational Technology at Ohio University in 2008, a MSIS at the University of Texas at Austin School of Information in 2005, and a B.A. in History at Reed College in Portland, Oregon in 2001. A 2007 American Library Association "Emerging Leader" and 2008 Library Journal "Mover and Shaker", Char blogs about library futures and technology literacy at info-mational and tweets @charbooth. In general, Char advocates for library cultures of experimentation and assessment, explores free and open source solutions to library sustainability, and promotes the integration of instructional design and pedagogy in library education. She presents frequently on all of the above, and her recent publications include Informing Innovation: Tracking Student Interest in Emerging Library Technologies at Ohio University (ACRL Digital Publications, 2009, free download) Hope, Hype, and VoIP: Riding the Library Technology Cycle (ALA TechSource, 2010) and a book on instructional design and teaching effectiveness, Reflective Teaching, Effective Learning: Instructional Literacy for Library Educators (ALA Editions, forthcoming Fall 2010).
