Research Interests

Information and communication technology policy and design, in particular within the context of information privacy, public health informatics, and the role of information technology in economic development. Most recently I’ve been researching how Egyptians use public access computing facilities. I’m also working with colleagues to design a “use class” framework for evaluating and designing public health informatics efforts.

An Interesting I School Project

As part of a conference on technology and the developing world held by UC Berkeley and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), my team won a fellowship to study the difficulties in producing affordable, accessible essential medical technologies in Tamil Nadu, India. We were onsite in India in 2004 for the project, and continue to conduct research.
