MIMS 2013
Interaction Designer, Google

Life before the I School

I did my B.A. in mathematics and computer science, and for over a year and a half I worked as a user experience designer at Nokia.

Why the I School

Because there’s no other school like it. The I School is truly a unique place that allows students to explore their passions — the things that they would never compromise on, that they’d sacrifice a weekend for. You can follow those passions at the I School. People come here to do amazing things.

Area of interest

I’m focused on the design of innovative user interfaces and how those interfaces allow users to interact and manipulate information. I’m also interested in how big data can be leveraged to improve user experience.

Information issue that intrigues me

I’m passionate about design, usability, mobile computing, and topics in human-computer interaction in general. I’m particularly interested in new interface designs that push users beyond the “picture under glass” manipulation we have become accustomed to.

Formative experience

The best class I’ve taken was Information Visualization and Presentation. The course is amazing because it seamlessly combines visualization theory with foundations, practical real world examples, hands-on labs that focus on development tools and frameworks, and insights from a variety of industry experts. I’m putting many of the skills I acquired to good use now in my internship at Apple.
