My background

I worked for Deloitte Consulting for four years, and got my B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research here at UC Berkeley. I've worked as a business technology consultant for clients in various industries, including media, telecom, publishing, and consumer products.

Why information — and why the I School?

My generation has seen technology transform society faster than ever. The amount of information generated and consumed in the world today is staggering. The I School is equipping me with the tools and mindset to deal with all this information. Technology is not going to solve all our problems, and it's important to be able to think critically and understand how the information landscape is evolving — and what we can do to influence it.

Best things about my experience here

The interdisciplinary nature of the school is one of its most remarkable features. I always have a hard time explaining to people what the I School is, because it's not confined to one single thing. It's a mix of computer science, business, law, design, and sociology — and the fact that we are exposed to all of this breadth makes us better information professionals in the working world.

Information challenge that intrigues me

One of the biggest problems with information is that there is so much of it! How can one make sense of it? Is there a systematic way to address the challenge? There is no one-size-fits-all approach because context and audience should shape the design of information systems. The I School is helping us understand the issues and tradeoffs so we can anticipate and ask the right questions.

Trends I’m watching

In the business world, everyone is looking to see if social media giants Facebook and Twitter can make real money with all this information on (and access to) their members.
