What I'm doing now

I currently develop worldwide strategies to accelerate growth opportunities in HP. The challenges these opportunities present require multidisciplinary solutions to be effective.

How the I School prepared me

My I School education empowered me to look at problems from a holistic perspective: recognizing that solutions not only must work flawlessly from a technical standpoint and be elegantly designed; great solutions also start with the user in mind, should consider the users’ motivations and behaviors, have optimal information flows, and work effectively within the organizational environment.

My summer internship

My summer internship was with Lithium Technologies, which provides companies with a platform to facilitate social conversations between customers using Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and other forums. I worked on developing a process for authoring tribal knowledge — leveraging the wisdom of the crowd by creating knowledge from user-generated content.

Why I chose to study information

I want to build my career in the field of information and knowledge management. In this new information era, companies need to assess the value of the knowledge they have. In the knowledge economy, great value is given to information and its application. We’re dealing with new problems, new opportunities and new constraints. I want to be able to understand the forces at work and participate in the development of tools and technologies that shape the way we interact with information.

Why I chose the I School

UC Berkeley is recognized as one of the best schools in the United States. And I like this program because of its interdisciplinary focus. Success in information management can only be achieved through an appropriate mix of business sciences, psychology, library studies, and information technology mastery. The MIMS program’s core areas and electives offer a wide range of specializations. For example, the information design and architecture electives will provide me with tools and techniques to manage and present information in the way users need it. Plus, UC Berkeley is located in a region of continuous innovation. No other school could provide me with the opportunity to hear guest speakers from the biggest players in the market — Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, to name just a few.

Impressions of South Hall

I love the location of the School of Information: right in the middle of the campus. I feel fortunate to spend my time in the oldest building on campus. Generations of leaders, thinkers, and innovators have sat in these rooms and developed theories and ideas that shaped the world as we know it. I feel some of this aura is still around.

“The I School has been way more than I expected. Although I came with a specific set of goals, the I School has broadened my perspective of what I can do.”
