Center for Next Generation of Teaching and Learning
The Center for Next Generation of Teaching and Learning promotes the development of emerging tools and methods that drive the next generation of teachers and learners toward student-centered education.
The Center serves as a focus point for research, development, and educational activities that span the academic and industry sides of education technology. We collaborate with institutions and campuses both public and private to bring together leaders to discuss issues, insights and expertise.
The work at the Center is divided primarily into three areas: learner engagement, online learning, and developing an information science approach to education.
What is Next Generation Teaching and Learning?
Next Generation Teaching and Learning is about capitalizing on the technologies of participation and collaboration that have become predominant experiences in Web 2.0 and using them to support student-centered learning.
The teaching and learning community has been slow to use these technologies in classrooms, often because they require an additional shift in educational paradigms, from instructional, on-the-pulpit styles, to a student-centered, adaptive environment where students can contribute to the educational experience and learn from one another.
