For Former UC Berkeley Graduate StudentsIf you have ever registered as a graduate student at Berkeley, you must submit the paper version of the UC Berkeley Graduate Application. This includes current Berkeley graduate students, applicants who have previously completed a graduate degree at UC Berkeley, and applicants who have previously withdrawn from a Berkeley graduate program. Applicants who have previously applied or been accepted to UC Berkeley but did not enroll as a graduate student or applicants who have only attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate should follow the normal master's application instructions or Ph.D. application instructions, using the online application. Other than the use of the paper application, the admissions selection process is the same. Former Berkeley students will still be reviewed in the context of the entire applicant pool and will have the same odds of getting in as an applicant from outside the university. Paper ApplicationDownload the PDF application from http://www.grad.berkeley.edu/admissions/app_instructions.shtml. The instructions included with the application say, "Do not use this application if you have ever registered as a graduate student at Berkeley." Ignore those instructions, and follow the instructions on this page instead. In place of the online application, please submit the following forms in hardcopy to the School of Information Admissions Office:
Additional Application MaterialsPlease follow all of the additional master's application instructions or Ph.D. application instructions, with the following differences: Letters of Recommendation: Even if you have previously applied to the School of Information, we require three new letters of recommendation. Because you must use the paper application, your letter writers cannot use the online letter of recommendation system. Please print out Form G (PDF) and provide it to each of your letter writers to include with the letter they submit on your behalf. Application Fee: If you have previously enrolled as a Berkeley graduate student, there is no application fee. GRE Scores: If you previously applied to UC Berkeley with a score report from the last 5 years (since December 2004), we may still have your scores on file; please check with the Admissions Office. If your scores are from before December 2004, you must retake the GRE. TOEFL Scores: (for international students) If you have completed a full year of coursework at UC Berkeley (or another U.S. university) with a grade of B or better, you are exempt from this requirement. Otherwise, please submit your scores according to the instructions. College Transcripts: We will retrieve your unofficial Berkeley transcript online to use for review purposes. If you applied to the School of Information within the last two years, we should have all transcripts on file and you will not need to resubmit these unless there has been a change. Follow all additional master's application instructions or Ph.D. application instructions, including submission of a current resumé or C.V. and Computer Competency Statement (master's applicants only). If You Are Offered AdmissionShould you be offered admission and depending on your status, you will be requested to submit the form(s) listed below (along with any applicable fees).
