Academic Director: Data Science Program

The School of Information is currently seeking an Academic Director for the fully online Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS) program. The Director will help lead and shape the academic content of the MIDS program, including recruiting talented adjunct faculty, professors in residence, lecturers and postdocs, establishing quality control processes for all course offerings, ensuring that the curriculum offerings adapt to changes in the industry, and working with the dean, assistant dean, and associate dean to expand MIDS as part of the I School’s overall growth strategy. The Director will be broadly responsible for the MIDS program and also provide oversight for the I School’s day-to-day relationship with 2U, our technology partner, working closely with 2U, I School faculty, and staff to deliver the highest quality online professional education.

Responsibilities

  • 25% — Provide leadership and oversight for existing MIDS program with focus on high quality student experience and leading edge curriculum. Ensure that our program vendor, 2U, provides a high level of service, and oversee their revenue generation and marketing efforts.

  • 25% — Develop and manage processes for the recruitment, onboarding and retention of adjunct faculty, postdocs and lecturers to develop and teaching MIDS courses. Institute and maintain an ongoing faculty development program focused on online teaching practices and the use of educational technologies.

  • 20% — Manage collaborative course design and development processes, engaging with our partner 2U and supporting faculty to create new high quality online courses. Collaborate with faculty to define learning objectives, interactions and activities to enhance online course offerings.

  • 10% — Implement and maintain online course and curriculum quality review processes focused on student outcomes and aligned with I-School goals and accreditation requirements.

  • 10% — Collaborate with Student Affairs to assess program's effectiveness and recommend changes to program's content, policies and procedures accordingly.

  • 10% — Collaborate with External Relations to determine external media placement opportunities for faculty. Work with professionals across the university as well as corporate partners to expand the scope and impact of the MIDS program.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience working in data science or closely related field (Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Information management, Analytics, etc.).

  • Experience providing management and oversight for multi-stakeholder organizations.

  • Demonstrated project and team management skills.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.

  • Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.

  • Demonstrated experience and history of planning, designing, developing, implementing, managing and growing technology-based learning programs in either academic or professional settings desired.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in data science or closely-related field, plus 7+ years relevant experience.

  • Experience working in higher education (especially in course design, development, and quality improvement) strongly preferred.

The salary range designated for this position is $82,500 – $135,000.

Starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
