Associate Director of Admissions

The Associate Director of Admissions will develop and coordinate the I School’s programs for student outreach, recruitment, and admissions, and educate the public about admissions requirements, policies, and processes for all three programs at the School of Information, with five admissions cycles per year. S/he will oversee a team of admissions readers, which will include hiring and training contract employees. Additionally, s/he will be responsible for vendor management in admissions, operations, recruitment, and outreach. The Associate Director will chair the admissions committees for MIDS and MIMS, and serve as key advisor for the faculty-led Ph.D. committee. The Associate Director will coordinate all financial assistance programs for students. In addition, the Associate Director will develop and maintain metrics on admissions, advising the Dean on changes in strategy to meet goals, and review challenging and complex admissions cases.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews most difficult and complex admissions cases, provides assistance to experienced admissions specialists. Serves as ex-officio chair of admissions committees for two professional Master’s degree programs. Serves as key advisor for the faculty-led Ph.D. committee.

  • Oversees the design, planning and implementation of application reviews for two Master’s and one Ph.D. program.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the recruitment programs, considering specific School admissions/enrollment goals, financial aid/scholarships, number of program applicants and acceptance rate for three distinct graduate degree programs. Evaluates effectiveness of admissions programs and makes recommendations for recruitment strategy to enhance quality of applicant pool and yield. Coordinates with approximately 30 2U staff members in admissions, operations, recruitment, and outreach. Serves as primary liaison to the Graduate Division Admissions Office and Financial Aid and the Scholarship Office.

  • Prepares strategy and plans for New Admits Day, program webinars, and yield webinars. Oversees staff, faculty, student, and vendor contributions to yield events.

  • Plans and implements recruitment outreach programs working closely with the I School External Relations department and 2U.

  • Evaluates and recommends fellowship and scholarship awards for admitted applicants.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of project management including program design, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of UC Berkeley, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective students and the public.

  • Advanced and comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at colleges/universities and specifically at UC Berkeley.

  • Advanced knowledge of tertiary level foreign credentials, secondary school records, study abroad programs and policies, and the knowledge of major educational systems of the world.

  • Advanced ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions.

  • Advanced ability to develop recruitment programs, and design effective materials.

  • Advanced knowledge of admissions requirements for campus/school/colleges, including mitigating circumstances/bases for exceptions.

  • Advanced skills to develop the School’s strategic recruitment plans, designing outreach and recruitment programs and materials that will attract and enroll top candidates to the School, including students from under-represented groups.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, public speaking, oral and written communication skills.

  • Successful completion of a background check.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Advanced knowledge of graduate programs in the U.S. and internationally.
