This tutorial is designed to introduce the basic concepts and skills needed to use the file services at SIMS effectively. After completing this tutorial, you should be able to navigate the various SIMS filespaces (e.g., your home directory, the group directories, etc.). You should be able locate and manipulate files and directories within these filespaces from both inside and outside of the SIMS local area network.

Organization
The tutorial is divided into three sections. Within each section, a concept is introduced, and a set of exercises is given to help you refine your understanding of the concept and apply what you've learned. The first section covers filesystems, the basic structures that computers use to organize data. The second section discusses file services typically used on local area networks. The third section covers methods for transferring files to and from SIMS filespaces from anywhere on the Internet.
